APALIT, Pampanga — The eldest son of this town’s mayor was killed in an ambush along the MacArthur Highway here early yesterday morning, police said.


Probers initially bewailed the refusal of witnesses to help them pin down at least three suspects in the ambush-killing of Roy Lacanilao, 34, son of Mayor Tirso Lacanilao. 


A suspect, a certain Raymond Santos Dominguez, 22, was later arrested in Calumpit, Bulacan. Senior Superintendent Renato Soria, Apalit police chief, said he tested positive for gunpowder burns in a paraffin test.

                    [Summary] => APALIT, Pampanga — Mayor Tirso Lacanilao publicly admitted yesterday that he received between P150,000 and P200,000 in monthly jueteng payoff before the government cracked down on the illegal numbers game here.


Speaking over local radio station dwRW-FM, Lacanilao accused other Pampanga mayors of "hypocrisy" after they issued a resolution recently backing the campaign against jueteng.


"A mayor receives a monthly salary of only P22,000," he said.

The pupils, belonging to the first to fourth grades in the school, attended their party at about 4:30 p.m. last Friday and were served spaghetti in styropore packs, fried chicken, and Zesto brand fruit juice drink in tetrapacks. At about 7 p.m., the children started to complain of severe pain in the abdomen and began to vomit.
