[Title] => Detrimental proposal
[Summary] => What for is the voting conducted by the Con Com on some proposed Constitutional amendments? Will their unanimous vote bind the legitimate body tasked with the real function of making the amendments? These questions crossed my mind especially after learning that there was even a dispute among the Con Com members regarding the unanimity of their voting on the proposal to trim the powers of the Supreme Court (SC).

The just concluded four-day Asia Clean Energy Forum or ACEF 2026, sponsored by the Asian Development Bank and held at its headquarters in Mandaluyong this week, highlighted the global need to build a sustainable and resilient energy system that should include more renewable energy sources from solar, wind, hydro and geothermal, as the world moves to lessen its dependence on energy sources that may be volatile and affected by conflict, and from traditional but environmentally-polluting sources of crude oil and coal, and the still controversial nuclear energy.

Two recent briefings I attended last week and this week give me hope that despite our current energy problem brought about by the Middle East war started by the United States and Israel, our country will move quickly and finally transition to more sustainable and renewable energy sources that rely on our abundant solar and wind power resources, hopefully ending our overdependence on imported crude oil from the Middle East and on the environmentally destructive use of coal to power our industries.
