EDC, a subsidiary of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC), has been tapped anew by Lihir Management Co. (LMC), the manager of the gold mining operations in Lihir Island, for the drilling of geothermal and dewatering wells in the island.
The new drilling contract is EDC’s fourth with LMC after completing its third contract in 2003.

"We will join the bidding which is scheduled by the end of this month," EDC president Paul Aquino said.
Aquino said EDC’s contract with PNG’s Lihir Management Co. (LMC) for steamfield development and management has already expired last year.
He said PNG would be bidding out four contracts. "We will participate first in the one year contract," he said.
