[Summary] => Spurned by the opposition on appeals for a honeymoon period, Malacañang yesterday called for a "ceasefire" in political hostilities after President Arroyo and Vice President-elect Noli de Castro take their oaths of office on June 30.
"In unity and reconciliation, the first step is to lower political temperature. Let’s have some sort of ceasefire in the exchange of words that might hurt each other’s feelings," Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said.
He said the media became receptive of the Palace request for a "honeymoon period" for Mrs. Arroyo but some from the opposition continued to turn it down.
Bunye said Malacañang was receiving mixed signals from the opposition, particularly those whom they expected to be hardliners.

Deputy Speaker Raul Gonzalez, co-chairman of the joint canvassing committee, and Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya said reports of destabilization attempts by Poe’s allies and supporters were bolstered by suspicious events days before the walkout.
"The walkout was part of their ‘no-proclamation’ (no-proc) scenario," Gonzalez said. "They keep on saying they want to help speed up the canvass yet every move they make, like asking the Supreme Court to stop the canvass, belies their claims."

"I will raise the issue before the joint committee (this morning)," said Pimentel, one of five opposition senators sitting on the panel. "It is a legitimate question and we ought to bring our heads together to find a feasible solution."
With the 12th Congress ending its third and fourth regular sessions last week, the joint canvassing committee is without a "parent," Pimentel said.
"Can the committee continue to function without its parent? Assuming it can, to what body would it submit its report? Would it be to the outgoing Congress that is now non-existent, or to the incoming 13th Congress that will begin its first session on the fourth Monday of July?" Pimentel asked.
