[Summary] => COTABATO CITY — The world’s Christian communities will celebrate the New Year on the first day of the Islamic Hijrah calendar, a phenomenon that happens only once every 110 years.
The Hijrah calendar is based on the lunar cycle, which advances at least 10 or 11 days each year. Religious holidays or events in Islam, as a result, cannot be marked on the Gregorian calendar, which has fixed timeframes regardless of the lunar cycles in each of its 12 months.
Coincidentally, New Year’s Day in both calendars falls on the same day, or today.
