Three new groups have expressed interest in becoming the third party in the development of the Camago-Malampaya Oil Leg (CMOL), an oil rim beneath the $4.5- billion Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power project.


Energy undersecretary Guillermo Balce identified the new groups as Burgundy, Synergy and Black Gold.  


Balce did not provide details on the identities of the new entities that have signified interest to join the CMOL but he said Burgundy is an asset management corporation and is a local firm.

                    [Summary] => The Department of Energy said that oil explorations in Cebu are still going on. 


Eduardo Amante, chief of the energy resource development and utilization division of the DOE regional office, said that their Manila office would soon announce the commercial viability of the oil deposits in areas that are being explored. 


In the southern part of Cebu, he added that drilling already reached as deep as six thousand feet but they could not yet determine the amount of gas deposits.

                    [Summary] => The  Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region will need over $100 billion in new investments in the power sector over the next five years to be able to meet their respective growing energy demand, an international trade official said. 


ASEAN secretary-general Ong Keng Yong said the energy and power sectors will fuel growth in the region. The figure, he said, was based on the energy action plan of the region for 2005-2010. 


Ong said the region would need about $7 billion in fresh capital to expand the region’s gas pipeline networks.
