                    [Summary] => Boracay, Aklan – The two new power facilities being put up by Mirant Global Philippines Corp. (MGPC) in Aklan will bring down the power rates being paid by self-generators in the province, particularly in tourist-drawer Boracay island, a local power company official said.


"Commercial establishments here using power generators can expect a significant reduction in the amount they spend for electricity," Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) executive officer Erico Bucoy said.

                    [Summary] => Energy Secretary Vincent S. Perez hailed Aklan Electric Cooperative’s (Akelco) effort to dramatically reduce a systems loss from its record high of 23 percent  in 2001 to 12.46 percent in February 2004. 


Perez said the reduction in system loss has allowed Akelco to pay most of its debts to the National Power Corp. (Napocor).
