Lapid, a high school graduate, has admitted his difficulty in English. This early, the outgoing Pampanga governor has plans of tapping a female cousin-lawyer to serve as his translator in the Senate.


During Senate sessions, Lapid said his cousin will be seated in the gallery from where she will translate the proceedings. An earphone will connect them wirelessly.

He explained that the 13th senator would only be serving the unexpired term of former Sen. Teofisto Guingona, who was appointed vice president last January. Guingona was elected to a six-year term in 1998.
