Sen. Renato Cayetano urged Malacañang yesterday to certify as urgent a
Senate bill seeking to increase the insurance coverage of bank deposits,
currently pegged at a maximum of only P100,000.

"The immediate passage of the measure would help restore public trust in the
banking system and boost the national savings mobilization effort," he said.

Under Senate Bill 1522, all bank deposits of less than P100,000 will be insured
100 percent.
