[Title] => Breakthrough
[Summary] => My first impulse was to call this column: "Let us give credit where credit is due". But on second thought that may not encompass what I wanted to say on the political scene. We have a mixed bag of forces that makes up an opposition intent on ousting President GMA. To them, she cannot do anything right unless she steps down before her term ends. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on which side of the fence you are in) we have a system which guarantees a presidents electoral term unless impeached which they failed to do.

[Title] => President GMA is really lucky
[Summary] => The peso-dollar rate could have gone above P60/$1 by now without the EVAT. The timing of the Supreme Courts decision and the EVATs implementation was impeccable. The Philippines is very fortunate the EVAT bill was upheld and implemented just in time when the US dollar is making a major move against other currencies. Since Oct. 18, the day the SC released their decision, most currencies have depreciated against the US dollar while the peso appreciated by 2.5 percent.
