The BIR has set the revenue target under the program at P12 billion.

"Acknowledging past performance and the late start of the program, a result over P2-3 billion is difficult to conceive," the IMF said in a paper.

The BIR implemented a new audit program for different areas covering the period June to August this year.

The BIR aims to expand its data-sharing network to include local government units (LGUs) and other government agencies within the coming months, Fonacier said.

The chances of appealing the P25.3-billion tax evasion case against tycoon Lucio Tan continue to dim as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) admitted it needs more time to evaluate the evidence.

In a letter to Justice Secretary Artemio Tuquero dated Sept. 22, BIR Commissioner Dakila Fonacier said the ad hoc committee, which he created, needs "at least four months to study Mr. Tan’s tax fraud suit."

Solicitor General Ricardo Galvez said yesterday the government will no longer appeal Tan’s P25.3-billion tax evasion case if the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) says the evidence against the beer and tobacco magnate is indeed weak.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) exceeded its excise tax collection target for the first quarter this year by P1-billion Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Dakila Fonacier, said yesterday.

Fonacier said BIR's newly-created excise tax services (ETS) was able to collect P20.211 billion for the first three months of 2000, surpassing its P19.54-billion target for the period.

The ETS is estimated to contribute around 25 percent of the total collection of the BIR for the year 2000

During the Newsmakers Forum at the Century Park Hotel yesterday, BIR deputy commissioner for resource management Estrelita Aguirre said Internal Revenue Commissioner Dakila Fonacier has already called the attention of all the regional offices that were not able to achieve their collection targets.

DAVAO CITY -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is determined to go after individuals and companies involved in the multibillion-peso tax credit certificate (TCC) scam.

BIR Commissioner Dakila Fonacier said this yesterday as he noted that the bureau will still insist on collecting unpaid taxes from those linked to the controversy, including oil companies such as Petron and Pilipinas Shell.

DAVAO CITY - The government's revenue target of P397 billion this year will surely be met with the country now on a firm growth path, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Dakila Fonacier said yesterday.

He pointed out that various economic indicators, including the gross domestic product, all increased during the first quarter of the year.

"These things, which are hard solid evidence of growth, will also correspondingly result in high collection figures," Fonacier said.

He noted that the BIR has already surpassed its goal for the first quarter. [DatePublished] => 2000-04-09 00:00:00 [ColumnID] => 133272 [Focus] => 0 [AuthorID] => [AuthorName] => [SectionName] => Headlines [SectionUrl] => headlines [URL] => ) ) )
