Four of the six chess players sacked for their involvement in game fixing yesterday sought a re-investigation of the case and asked that their suspension be deferred, claiming they were denied due process by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.


In their letter to the NCFP through legal counsel Atty. Cris Aspiras Jr., a former national junior champion, IMs Ronald Dableo, Chito Garma and Darwin Laylo and NM Oliver Barbosa asked the chess body to "afford them their right to due process before they are meted the suspension."

Former Benguet Gov. Raul Molintas yesterday resigned as co-chair of the internal affairs committee of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, claiming he didn’t submit any report recommending the suspension of six players for their involvement in the game-fixing scandal.


Molintas said his resignation, which he had already sent to NCFP president Rep. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. of Surigao, is irrevocable.

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines yesterday suspended International Master Ronald Dableo for one year and sacked five others for six months for their involvement in game-fixing in local and international tournaments last year.


The NCFP executive board slapped the suspension on the six players after it was established that Dableo fixed a game in the Malaysian Open and the rest conspired in a couple of local tilts last year as the chess body moved to rid itself of irregularities that have hounded the sport.
