                    [Summary] => Today, April 4, 1639, the first Spanish expedition to Lanao reaches the shores of Lake Lanao. It is composed of 500 Caraga Filipino and 50 Spaniards, under the joint command of Father Agustin de San Pedro (famous Recollect missionary-soldier) and Captain Francisco Atienza.


After several weeks, the expedition was reinforced by another party of Filipino and Spaniards under the command of Don Pedro Fernandez del Rio. The lake region was explored and alliances were formed with various Maranaw datus.
