SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija — President Arroyo led the inauguration the other day of the 23.5-kilometer lateral canal under Phase 1 of the P6.7-billion irrigation component of the giant Casecnan multipurpose irrigation and power project.


Undersecretary Renato Diaz, presidential assistant for Central Luzon, who accompanied Mrs. Arroyo together with National Irrigation Administration (NIA) chief Arturo Lomibao, said the lateral canal forms part of the P1-billion contract package S2 of the five-package irrigation component.

                    [Summary] => LEGAZPI CITY — Some 90 evacuees in Sto. Domingo town suffered loose bowel movement after being supplied with dirty drinking water, health authorities said.


According to Dr. Veronica Madulid, Albay health officer, investigation showed that the firetruck used in supplying water to villagers temporarily housed at the Bical evacuation center earlier carried water from an irrigation canal.


This developed as a one-year-and-six-month-old child died after a severe asthmatic attack, while two babies were delivered at evacuation centers in Malilipot and Sto. Domingo towns.
