                    [Title] => Salamin
                    [Summary] => Yes, it is a fish, so-called because of its silvery skin. It’s a lovely fish, roundish and flat, similar in shape to kitang, but its fins are shaped like a flower of thread-like needles, beautifully curved, as if caught in graceful movement. Vilma, of course, cajoled us to get this at P120 a kilo. We are usually averse to things not familiar to us, specially food, but she is a very persuasive person. It was good that we did, for we thoroughly enjoyed the salamin, fried crisp and served with pickled radish.

Show us a man/woman who does not enjoy eating–that person would be difficult to find. We know many people whose passion is Japanese food, including our 11-year-old gourmet who, from his early years, knew what California maki and sushi were. Recently, a very good friend brought us to this little place called Little Tokyo in Makati, on a small street off Pasong Tamo, near Makati Cinema Square. Do not do this, however, on a weekend, as the stores will surely be very crowded, or on a Monday, because stocks are normally not fresh.

While nearby Cainta has been Makro country, neighboring Pasig is fast being "invaded" by big outlets, although Sta. Lucia East mall has been there for a quite a while. The Big R of the Robinsons chain recently opened in Barangay de la Paz and maybe by the time we come out the high-end S&R Price would have opened on Ortigas Ave. Extension in Barangay Sta. Lucia. Residents in these areas are surely happy.
