They are a unique class of overseas Filipinos, technically not workers or tourists, but someone in between. Because of this unique status, Filipino au pairs – live-in domestic assistants or nannies – in Europe do not have access to the same protection and assistance as regular OFWs (overseas Filipino workers). But au pairs have found a champion in Filomenita “Nitnit” Mongaya-Hoegsholm, who has been involved in such causes for the past 15 years.
