Si Isaias ay nabuhay noong mga 700 taon bago ipanganak si Jesus. Ang mga propeta ng Lumang Tipan, tulad ni Isaias, ay nagpahayag ng pananalig ng Israel: Ang sambayanan ng Diyos ay nagmula sa Diyos at sila’y babalik sa Diyos. Subalit ang Israel ay mangangailangan ng pakikisangkot ng isang manunubos. Nakini-kinita at hinulaan ni Isaias ang pagdating ng isang Tagapagligtas sa katauhan ni Jesus (Is. 9:1-6).
