LEGAZPI CITY — Police were still gathering clues on Monday’s killing of a former vice mayor of Cataigan town in Masbate.
Reynaldo Lim, 48, an entrepreneur, was inside his store on Magsaysay street in Barangay Poblacion when two men casually approached him and opened fire, said Senior Superintendent Eugenio Alcovindas, Masbate police director.
The assailants immediately boarded a motorcycle and sped off toward Placer town.
Alcovindas said Lim was shot in the left chest and died while he was being rushed to the Cataigan Emergency Hospital.

Senior Superintendent Eugene Alcovindas, Masbate police director, identified the fatalities as Palmario Martinez, 56, and Dominico de la Casa, 43, resident manager and supervisor, respectively, of Hacienda Batuan, managed by Bobby Honasan.

[Summary] => LEGAZPI CITY — New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed a civilian and wounded a policeman and a militiaman during an ambush in Mandaon, Masbate Saturday morning, police said.
The joint police-militia team was responding to a report that some 70 heavily armed guerrillas had swooped down on a ranch in Barangay San Juan when they were waylaid.
The rebels shot dead a bull cow and torched a bulldozer at the ranch apparently due to the owner’s refusal to pay "revolutionary taxes," said Chief Superintendent Victor Barbo Boco, Bicol police director.

[Summary] => LEGAZPI CITY — Police have launched a hot pursuit for a band of 50 heavily armed New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who killed five policemen and three construction workers in an ambush in Claveria, Masbate last Friday morning.
The attack also left another policeman and two other civilians wounded.
This is the NPA’s second bloody ambush in the region this new year. Last Tuesday, 20 guerrillas waylaid a joint police-Army team in Barangay Bulo in Matnog, Sorsogon, killing Senior Inspector Eduardo Amande Jr., Pfc. Alex Cortez and militiaman Roger de Leon.
