But because we are talking music here, I’d like to go back further and enjoy the work of two men who have become defining figures in the development of Philippine pop music. These are Rey Valera and Martin Nievera and the reason for my sudden interest is the release of CD compilations containing their breakthrough recordings for Vicor Music Corp. where they both began their singing careers.

The other brought a classic danza by Mike Velarde up to date with a pop arrangement. The success of these songs paved the way to stardom for Hajji, Valera and Rico J.

Looks like the Wiseguys are all set to make up for the neglect that the boy
band sound seems to be suffering among local music producers. Take note that
since this worldwide phenomenon came about, the only successful attempt we have
had was Nanghihinayang  with Jeremiah. After the group's second attempt
collapsed with a thud, nothing was heard anymore about pop male groups in the
mold of the Backstreet Boys or 98 Degrees.
