Hurting Fil-German inspires Phl booters

BANGKOK – So much has been said of Chieffy Caligdong’s inspiring goal against Vietnam that won it for the Philippine Azkals, 1-0, or the game-changing entry of the Azkals skipper, Angel Guirado and Dennis Wolf in the second half.

But for coach Michael Weiss, the man of the match was clearly Fil-German midfielder Patrick Reichelt.

Playing through pain after breaking two teeth off a collision with Guirado in Monday’s practice, Reichelt put up a solid as a starter at left wing against Vietnam the next day, bravely fighting for the ball and providing energy in the Pinoy booters’ attacks.

“Reichelt lost two teeth and was in the hospital last night (Monday) and this morning (Tuesday). For me, he was the man of match,” said Weiss.

“Fantastic performance, no fear. This is the kind of people we need. I’m very proud of the boy. It was me who talk him over, build him up after (his) ACL. I’m very, very happy for him, probably his mother will be in tears,” added Weiss.

Reichelt took an elbow to the mouth that shattered two teeth. Dentist couldn’t fix the broken teeth anymore. But the 24-year-old Global FC winger’s heart and fighting spirit remain intact and do not need fixing.
