Menor-de-edad huli sa raid ng OMB
Tatahi-tahimik lang si Optical Media Board Chairman Edu Manzano, pero tuluy-tuloy pala ang operasyon ng Optical Media Board (OMB).
Kamakailan ay nagkaroon ng joint operation with its deputized agents led by Police Superintendent Jesse Estrada para sa series of raids.
Karamihan sa kanilang mga nakumpiska ay pornographic materials for adults and children.
Samantala, kasama na si Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte sa mga nakikiisa sa kampanya na hindi papayagan ang any form pornography sa Davao. Pero kamakailan ay may nahuli sa isang raid ang isang 22-year old businesswoman kasama ang 15-year old boy na nagbebenta ng pornographic optical media. Ang menor-de-edad na nahuli was turned-over to the Social Work and Services department.
Ayon sa pulisya, mino-monitor nila ang nasabing Chinese businessman na pinaniniwalaang responsible sa shipping ng pornographic materials sa Davao.
Nasa plano na ng OMB ang series of raids sa buong Pilipinas para masawata na ang pirated audio and video materials na ginagamit sa pamimirata at maging ang mga produkto nito.
Nakakumpiska ang OMB ng halos 389,360 pirated optical discs worth P136-M for January and February alone na isa sa basehan kung bakit nakasama ang OMB sa listahan ng top 10 most effective government agencies in the country.
Kaya naman nari-recognize din ang effort ni OMB Chair Edu kung saan siya ang recipient of the Top Asia-Pacific Copyright Enforcer award sa Beijing. Mike Ellis, Senior Vice-President and Regional Director for Asia Pacific of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), said in presenting the award, that “One of the MPA’s closest allies in the fight against copyright theft is Edu Manzano. His work has resulted in the seizure of millions of pirated optical discs and the substantial raising of awareness of intellectual property issues in the Philippines.”
