PRO-8 to launch Clean Rider in EV

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The Police Regional Office-8 yesterday announced that it will launched its local version of the national Clean Rider campaign, separating law-abiding motorcycle riders from those involved in illegal activities.

PRO-8 said a Clean Rider sticker will be issued to each motorcycle riders, who has no criminal records and has proof of legal ownership of the vehicle.

Police stations in the six provinces of Eastern Visayas will be open for screening of riders starting September 15.

“The clean rider campaign aims to prevent crimes using impounded and stolen motorcycles. After screening, riders will be issued with stickers for free. It’s like a police clearance for riders,” PRO-8 spokesperson Senior Supt. Ma. Bella Rentuaya told the local reporters.

From October 2017 to July 2018, there were at least 28 shooting incidents in the region committed by motorcycle-riding assailants. In the first seven months this year, 41 motorcycles were stolen and only 27 have been recovered, PRO-8 said.

The clean rider sticker will help identify a motorcycle that has been thoroughly checked, verified and registered with the police. It has special features that cannot be forged, said Rentuaya.
