Danao vice mayor’s bodyguard shot dead

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

DANAO, BOHOL, Philippines – Three men, masked with bonnets, shot dead the bodyguard of the vice mayor at Barangay Magtangtang, this town, early morning yesterday.

A source from the Bohol Police Provincial Office confirmed the killing of Jacinto Galvez Jr., alias Jojo, who was reportedly the bodyguard of incumbent Vice Mayor Tom Gonzaga, who is now running for mayor unopposed in the coming elections.

Galvez sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital in Catigbian town but was declared dead on arrival.

Police report said Galvez was on an errand to a store when waylaid by the three men who fired shots at him. Several empty shells of bullets for .45-caliber and .99-mm guns were recovered from the crime scene, indicating the victim was shot many times.

The report added that investigations into the incident were still going, but police investigators could not yet establish the motive of the killing of Galvez, considering that the local elections are drawing near.

Meanwhile, last Saturday, a certain Elly Job Cabahug, alias Tatay, was gunned down by operatives of the Provincial Public Safety Company in the island-barangay of Jagoliao in Getafe town.

Cabahug, who maintained a resort in that island, was known to be an alleged gun-for-hire and drug dealer in some towns of the province, police officials said.

Meanwhile, police said they could not link the gun-for-hire suspects who were shot dead in shootout with police in Inabanga last week to political motive. (FREEMAN)
