NORPPO has new officer-in-charge

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Senior Superintendent Harris Fama is now the new officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO) and officially assumed office yesterday, although his orders was dated January 8, 2016, or two days before the election ban on transfer, promotion and hiring of government personnel.

Fama, a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class 1990 and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Class 228, replaced Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, who is being promoted by assignment to the Police Regional Office-7 (Central Visayas).

Fama told The FREEMAN this new assignment was a dream coming true for him because this is his first assignment in the Visayas, after years of serving in Mindanao and Luzon in various capacities, as platoon commander, company commander and chief of police in different areas.

Fama was also the former chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Region 5, and OIC provincial commander in Camarines Norte before his latest assignment in Negros Oriental.

Governor Roel Degamo said that, with Fama’s track record in solving illegal gambling and illegal drugs, he expected the new police official to address all forms of criminality in the province.

Fama in turn said this is a big challenge for him considering that the Police Regional Office-18 is the newest police regional command, and he will be a part of its history of being the first OIC provincial commander of NORPPO under the Negros Island Region or Region 18.

Carlos, the outgoing provincial official, meanwhile announced that he already organized a Quick Response Force (QRF) for Negros Oriental to comply with the security requirements during the election period. Yesterday, he briefed the QRF members before the formal assumption of Fama to the NORPPO helm.

Carlos further told the local media he had accomplished his mission in the province with his communication project carried out during his last six months as OIC of NORPPO, involving news linkages with the police and the media. — Juancho R. Gallarde (FREEMAN)
