Tagbilaran Airport freed from one-plane policy

Angeline Valencia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - With the completion of the construction of its emergency ramp, the Tagbilaran City Airport will soon be out of the one-plane policy imposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

This was announced by Bohol Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, during the weekly Kita Ug Ang Gobernador Forum, where he relayed the statement from Dennis Aures, manager of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in the province regarding the ramp.

Damalerio said Aures told him that the new emergency ramp, after the curing period, is now operational and ready to accommodate a stalled aircraft.

The completed P38-million project however has yet to be turned over by the contractor, CB Garay Philwide Builders, to the CAAP.

The emergency ramp, built on a 17,000-square-meter property rented by CAAP, will serve as additional apron for the Tagbilaran Airport to be able to accommodate more than one aircraft at a time. This will address the recurring problem of cancelled flights every time a plane gets stalled at the tarmac.

CAAP has been strictly complying with the one-aircraft policy of the ICAO, considering the limited space at the Tagbilaran Airport, but with the new ramp, the airport is expected to be exempted from this regulation. (FREEMAN)
