Dumaguete dad seeks mall contract review

Juancho R. Gallarde - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE  CITY, Philippines – A member of the City Council is calling for a thorough review of any agreement the city has with the management of Robinsons Mall and the lot owner regarding the use of the road where a public transport terminal is supposed to serve the public.

Councilor Antonio "Tony Rems" Remollo is in a quandary as to why the city's more than 2,500 tricycles  are not allowed to use the road leading to the Transport Terminal of Dumaguete which is located at the back of Robinsons Mall.

Remollo stressed that the transport terminal was constructed by Robinsons to the tune of P25 million, to which the city has agreed, to decongest traffic and to remove a number of illegal terminals along the streets of Dumaguete.

However, the councilor observes it has not totally removed the illegal terminals, one of the reasons of which was the prohibition of tricycles to enter the transport terminal in order to deliver their passengers there.

Remollo believes no terminal will prosper in the absence of commuters that are normally delivered by tricycles in the case of Dumaguete.

According to Remollo, the prohibition will in effect result to the proliferation of illegal terminals that can be accessed by the main mode of transportation in the city.

He called on the city legal office to make a thorough review of the agreement before entering into a memorandum of agreement with the Dumaguete Business Park for the rental of the road. - JMD
