Tacloban invites Pope Francis
CEBU, Philippines - The Tacloban City Council yesterday approved unanimously a resolution inviting Pope Francis to visit the Yolanda-torn city by next year when the pope is planning to visit the Philippines.
City Councilor Jerry Uy, main proponent of the resolution, confirmed this matter, saying that the invitation letter will be coursed through Archbishop Guiseppes Pinto, Vatican City’s Papal Nuncio to the Philippines.
“The reason why we in the Council decided to invite Pope Francis to visit Tacloban is due to his plan to visit the country next year,†Uy told The Freeman.
“With the devastation of Yolanda, the people of Tacloban want to see the pope personally, as a symbol of their faith in God, which has given them strength and resiliency to rise from the disaster,†he said, adding that Pope Francis’s presence will be a source of hope for a better life of the Taclobanons.
