1 dead, 1 hurt in road accident

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A man was killed while a woman was injured after  a mini-bus they were riding fell into the roadside along the highway at Barangay Dolis in Calatrava town of Negros Occidental, Monday morning.

Inspector Mark Jungco, Calatrava police chief, identified the victim as Teofilo Manayon, 46, of  Barangay Lalong in the same town, while the one injured was Marites Dungog, 40, of  Barangay Ani-e, also of this town.

Jungco said the mini-bus, driven by 25-year-old Aljem Silladora of  Toboso  town, was going uphill when its engine conked out, causing the vehicle to move backwards and fell into the side of the road.

Manayon quickly jumped off  the vehicle but he crashed into a coconut tree and fell. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. (FREEMAN)
