Power, lights restored

Edgar Allan Vilbar - The Freeman

ORMOC CITY , Philippines  â€” Power has been restored, bringing back lights to the town of Hilongos in Leyte yesterday, as well as in the street lights in some parts of Ormoc City and in some towns of  Iloilo province.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the transmission towers from the geothermal plant to Hilongos town was not damaged, resulting in the restoration of power and lighting up the town, about 90 kilometers southward from Ormoc City

NGCP also energized its Ormoc-Simangan 69-kiloVolt (kV) line on Sunday afternoon and connected the substation of the Leyte Electric Cooperative to it, which in turn lighted up the street lights around the Ormoc City Hall in the evening that day.

The Ormoc City Hall was supposed to have been lit Sunday evening also, but the Energy Development Corporation had to inspect it first to ensure that all electrical circuits in the building are okay before linking power into it.

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla, who was in Ormoc that Sunday, told The Freeman in a huddle that his target of power restoration in Leyte province by Dec. 24 may be accomplished earlier. He said that it might be done by Dec. 15, although this is just an estimate yet.

Meanwhile in Iloilo, NGCP likewise successfully energized last Friday its Dingle-Natividad 69-kV line, which is connected to the Iloilo Electric Cooperative III that distributes power to portions of Iloilo province, such as the towns of Anilao, Banate, Barotac Viejo and Ajuy.  (FREEMAN)
