New LP members to take oath in Negros convention

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines —At least 12 mayors and several vice mayors and councilors in Negros Occidental will take their oath as members of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) during the party’s provincial convention in Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 5.

LP provincial chairman 3rd District Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez said no less than President Benigno Aquino III, chairman of LP, is expected to officiate the oathtaking, which will be held at the Nature’s Village Resort and Hotel in Talisay.

Benitez said LP stalwarts who have confirmed their attendance at the May 4- 5 convention include Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, LP president; Senator Franklin Drilon; and Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Sagay Councilor Bubbles Tolentino of the LP Secretariat said LP director-general Ma. Gladys Sta. Rita, Assistant Secretary Rolando Cucio of the Office of Political Affairs, NIPS Executive Director Lambert Ramirez, and Board Member Henry Bacurnay Jr. are also expected to attend.

Bacurnay, national president of the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines, will lead the Basic Orientation on Liberal Democracy.

Benitez earlier said the convention is aimed at strengthening LP in Negros Occidental as he expressed optimism that more local officials in Negros Occidental will join their party. — (FREEMAN)
