Town police chief shot

ILOILO CITY , Philippines  – A police station chief was shot Saturday evening inside his house at Bagumbayan St.in Barangay 8 of San Jose, capital town of Antique province.

Police reports said that 54-year-old Senior Insp. Abelardo Cabrela, chief of the Libertad Police Station also in this province, sustained a gunshot wound on his body when shot by his brother-in-law, another policeman, after a heated argument over some family matters.

Cabrela was rushed to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose, and later moved to the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Iloilo City for further treatment.

Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, Jr., Antique Police Provincial director, identified the suspected assailant as PO1 Warlito Dulalia, a member of the San Jose Police Station, who was the husband of the victim's younger sister. He said he would personally see to it that the suspect would be charged both administratively and criminally.

Reports said that Cabrela was conversing with some relatives in his house when Dulalia arrived. An argument ensued and Dulalia allegedly drew his gun and shot Cabrela.

Dulalia left the scene shortly after but surrendered at around 11 a.m. the following day, Sunday, to his superior, Chief Insp. Gilbert Gorrero of San Jose Police.
