Edad ang naging basehan ni Chot

MANILA, Philippines - Marami ang nagulat nang hindi banggitin sa idinagdag na 12 PBA players ang mga pangalan nina veteran big men Ranidel De Ocampo ng TNT Katropa, Marc Pingris ng Star at big guard Gabe Norwood ng Rain or Shine.

Sinabi ni Gilas Pilipinas 5.0 head coach Chot Reyes na mas pinahalagahan niya ang edad sa pinili niyang 24-man national training pool.

“It’s a very young team, it’s ba-lanced, it helps us run a system we want to run. We like the combo of youth and veteran smarts,” wika ni Reyes sa paghahanda para sa mga lalahukang qualification tournaments patungo sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Sina De Ocampo, Pingris at Norwood ay miyembro ng Gilas Pilipinas na kumuha ng silver medal noong 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship na nagbi-gay-daan sa kanilang paglalaro sa 2014 FIBA World Cup sa Spain.

Ang 12 PBA players na idinagdag ni Reyes para sa national training pool ay sina three-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo (San Miguel), Jayson Castro (TNT Katropa), Terrence Romeo (Globalport), Japeth Aguilar (Ginebra), Paul Lee (Star), Calvin Abueva (Alaska), Raymond Almazan (Rain or Shine), Arthur Dela Cruz (Blackwater), LA Revilla (Mahindra), Jonathan Grey (Meralco), Bradwyn Guinto (NLEX) at Norbert Torres (Phoenix).

Ikinabigla ng mga basketball fans ang paghugot ni Reyes kina Revilla, Grey, Guinto, Dela Cruz at Torres.

“I’m eager to prove my worth and to go up against sina June Mar (Fajar-do) is really good,” wika ng 6-foot-6 at 27-anyos na sophomore center na si Torres, produkto ng La Salle sa UAAP.

Ang Fil-Canadian slotman ay miyembro ng Gilas Cadets  na  kampeon sa Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championships (SEABA) at sa SEA Games sa ilalim ni dating national coach Tab Baldwin noong 2015 at sa 18-under youth team ni mentor Franz Pumaren.
