The God difference

TODAY COUNTS - Dr. Harold J. Sala -

Only a fool would say to himself, “There is no God.” And why does he say it? Because of his wicked heart, his dark and evil deeds. His life is corroded with sin. -  Psalm 53:1 tlb

A highly respected professional and head of a hospital psychiatric unit told me, “When people won’t let God help them, we’re the only ones left.” When a person shuts out God from life, he or she denies a fundamental part of life that brings purpose to existence. St. Augustine wrote, “Thou hast made us for thyself, O God, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.”

Acknowledging God is there puts you on the side of the majority; but if you go beyond acknowledging Him, you allow Him to touch your life, to invade your space with His presence, and to guide and direct your life. That’s the difference between having gas in the tank and starting the engine so you can go somewhere.

An eight-year-old boy put it like this: “If you don’t believe in God, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go everywhere with you, like camp, but God can. It is good to know He’s around you when you’re scared in the dark or when you can’t swim very good and you get thrown into the real deep water by the big kids.”

God never forces Himself on you. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart,” were the words of the Almighty recorded by the prophet Jeremiah (29:13). God is far more interested in you than you are in Him. He created you and put within your heart a void that only He can fill.

Today ask Him to go before you, to walk with you, and to let you sense He is there. He will. He makes a difference.
