Baguio courts revive face mask advisory amid COVID-19 threat
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Judges, litigants and court personnel including visitors have been urged to wear face masks while inside Baguio’s Hall of Justice after a court employee reportedly tested positive for COVID.
In a joint memorandum, the Regional Trial Court (RTC) and the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) said the advisory covers everyone entering the main and the annex areas of the Hall of Justice.
Aside from a confirmed case in Baguio, court officials said the advisory was also prompted by reports of increasing COVID cases in Metro Manila.
Data from the Quezon City epidemiology and surveillance division showed 84 COVID cases from June 11 to July 1, up from 23 reported between May 21 and June 10.
The report showed that about 86 percent of patients experienced mild symptoms and were treated as outpatients.
The rest, or 14 percent, required hospitalization.
The Baguio RTC and MTCC said the wearing of face mask is voluntary but strongly encouraged to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Copies of the advisory were distributed to all RTC and MTCC offices as well as the office of the regional court manager.
