Tolentino’s office responds
We are writing in response to the article titled “Who owns this SUV?” published on Nov. 6, 2024. In said article, you wrote: “In May, a senator drew flak for not only having two motorcycle escorts from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to part the traffic for his convoy, but also for the use of fake Philippine National Police insignias on the MMDA bikes. Senator Francis Tolentino, former MMDA head, claimed his office has no control over the use of PNP stickers. He was also miffed by the apprehension of his two escorts, arguing that they violated no law.”
In response, we would like to inform you that the case filed by the arresting PNP officers against these two MMDA officers has been dismissed by the Office of the City Prosecutor of Parañaque on Aug. 20, 2024.
This resolution, issued after thorough examination of the facts and circumstances, dismissed the case filed against these two MMDA officers/escorts, negating any criminal liability on their part. It substantiates the assertion of Senator Tolentino that there was no violation of law on the part of the MMDA personnel, thereby validating the arguments he raised.
While the initial reports may have raised concerns, the dismissal of the case reflects the conclusion that the actions of the MMDA personnel were within legal bounds.
It is essential to recognize the findings of the Office of the City Prosecutor in relation to this incident. We hope that this clarification will provide your readers with a more complete understanding of the issue. – MA. PRICILLA OLIVIA FELICIANO, MARIA REGINA VICTORIA L. PANO, CELESTE O.
