Thoughts to guide us by (For April 2010)

- Elvie Punzalan-Estavillo -

MANILA, Philippines – This Lenten season was doubly significant — it came on the heels of our national and local elections. It was an opportune time for us to truthfully take stock and analyze the events that led us to this deplorable economical and political deep pit. To deeply ponder what together we must do to alleviate our situation, and not allow ourselves to be miserably dragged down again …. and again.

As Christendom celebrated Holy Week — may we realize that corruption, grave abuses and sins against humanity sow their own seeds of destruction — pierce our hearts and minds, especially the politicians and government officials. To remember that nothing lasts forever! To look beyond earthly shadows that fade away and focus on our Lord, Our Saviour!

At the end of our pilgrimage, the wealth accumulated and the power wielded, lawfully or unlawfully, will matter not! Judged we shall be — solely and purely — on the noble, honest deeds we did for our fellow pilgrims.

To be burdened with remorse and laden with guilt in the throes of death — is the worst that can ever happen to anyone! To have peace in our hearts and happiness in our souls now and when the curtain of life closes — give the best we can, selflessly and honestly — for God, country and family.

Peace and abundance to us all!
