Cebu City gains newest water source

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City has secured another crucial water source to ease the burden on residents who have long struggled with intermittent water supply following the recent completion of the rehabilitation of a well in Singson Village in Barangay Guadalupe.

The facility, capable of producing around 1,000 to 1,200 cubic meters of water per day, is expected to benefit between 1,400 and 1,500 households in Guadalupe and nearby barangays.

Mayor Nestor Archival, who led the commissioning on August 27 alongside Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Barangay Guadalupe Councilor Alex Semilla, described the project as a concrete step toward strengthening the city’s water resilience.

“Usa pa ka importanteng water source ang nabalik na sa serbisyo para sa atong mga komunidad. Ang rehabilitated well sa Singson Village, Barangay Guadalupe makaproduce og around 1,000 cubic meters of water per day, nga potentially makabenepisyo sa kapin 1,400 ka households sa Guadalupe ug neighboring barangays,” Archival said.

He stressed that water is a basic need that requires decisive action.

“Taking action means making sure nga naa tay konkretong buhaton para matubag ang atong water needs. Mao nga padayon nato nga palig-onon ug mapalambo ang atong water sources, especially as our communities continue to grow,” he added.

The event also highlighted the partnership with the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), represented by Chairperson Ruben Almendras, General Manager Atty. John Dx Lapid, and its engineering and operations teams.

Archival expressed gratitude for MCWD’s sustained efforts, saying their collaboration ensures a more reliable and sufficient water supply for the community.

Earlier this year, MCWD also began drilling in upland Kalunasan to serve households and institutions that have long been deprived of stable connections, while the city government restored most of its community wells. (CEBU NEWS)
