Fernandez-Magno, 52
MANILA, Philippines - Folksinger and teacher Susan Fernandez-Magno died yesterday at the Medical City in Pasig due to ovarian cancer. She was 52.
GMA7 news website described Fernandez-Magno as the “voice of protest,” having been active in the women’s movement and the years leading to the fall of the Marcos dictatorship in 1986, and well through the troubled Aquino administration.
She released an independently produced album, Habi at Himig, and taught sociology at the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo.
Her ashes were brought to Christ the King Church at Green Meadows last night, where they will remain until Sunday noon, according to STAR columnist Alex Magno with whom the folksinger had two sons.
