Binondo fire leaves 2,134 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 2,134 families were displaced after a fire broke out at the Parola Compound in Binondo, the Manila city government said yesterday.
Of the 7,123 people affected, 2,768 are minors and 310 are senior citizens.
Damaged structures reached 1,266, according to arson investigators.
Probers are still determining the cause of Saturday’s nine-hour fire.
Six boats and several Philippine Coast Guard personnel helped extinguish the fire. — Evelyn Macairan
