PNP chief tells cops: Ignore political noise

MANILA, Philippines — Amid political issues circulating on social media, the Philippine National Police has directed PNP commanders and personnel to remain focused on maintaining peace and order.
PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said criticisms and online intrigues should not distract police from their mandate of public safety and law enforcement.
“These intrigues and political noises, including attempts to encourage any of our personnel to engage in partisan politics, are meant to distract us from performing our job well and sustaining our gains on peace and order,” Nartatez said.
He said police should instead use criticism as motivation to improve service and continue efforts in maintaining public safety.
Nartatez said ongoing programs, including crime reduction efforts, anti-narcotics operations and internal reforms, would continue despite political developments.
He said the PNP would sustain coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and other law enforcement agencies.
“Our working relationship with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has been highly professional, collaborative and anchored on institutional stability,” Nartatez said.
He ordered regional and local police units to remain focused on law enforcement operations and maintain visibility in communities, saying the PNP’s mandate remains unchanged.
