BJMP officer nabbed for indiscriminate firing

MANILA, Philippines — An officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was arrested after he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun and fired at a residential area in Tondo, Manila police reported yesterday.
The 31-year-old suspect is facing complaints for grave threats, alarm and scandal as well as violation of Republic Act 11926, the Anti-Indiscriminate Firing Act.
Police said the arrest stemmed from an emergency report received through the Unified 911 system.
Investigators said operatives from the Don Bosco police community precinct responded to a report of indiscriminate firing in Barangay 68, Tondo.
A 46-year-old woman told authorities that the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, appeared outside her residence while looking for his girlfriend before entering the victim’s house.
The suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the woman and then fired into the ground, causing alarm among residents.
A follow-up operation resulted in the suspect’s arrest in Barangay 121, Tondo.
Recovered from the suspect were a 9mm pistol, a magazine loaded with five live rounds, a fired slug, and a license to own and possess firearms.
