Cop who pushed rider off motorcycle arrested

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was apprehended for reportedly pushing a rider off his motorcycle in a hit-and-run incident in Pasig on Tuesday.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. yesterday ordered an investigation into the incident involving the suspect, a staff sergeant assigned with the Quezon City Police District’s mobile force.
Nartatez did not disclose the policeman’s identity.
“The PNP reiterates that any personnel found to have violated laws or rules shall be held accountable and subjected to administrative and criminal proceedings,” Nartatez said in a statement.
A report from the police Highway Patrol Group said the incident occurred along the northbound lane of C5 Road at around 5:30 p.m.
Video posted on Visor’s Facebook page showed the rider on a Honda Click motorcycle while the policeman was on a Yamaha TFX 150 motorcycle.
For unknown reason, the policeman nudged the victim’s motorcycle with his left hand, causing the rider to lose his balance.
The victim crashed to the ground. Instead of helping the motorist, the policeman drove off.
Netizens have criticized the police officer for actions that could have killed the rider.
Metro Manila police director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said the QCPD detained the policeman.
The Land Transportation Office has ordered the policeman to appear at the LTO hearing on May 18.
