Fire leaves 100 families homeless in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — One hundred families were left homeless after a fire hit a shantytown in Quezon City yesterday, the Bureau of Fire Protection reported.
The BFP said the blaze started at 5:50 a.m. and reached second alarm after three minutes.
Sr. Insp. Rodrigo delos Santos, Quezon City Fire District Station 1 commander, said around 50 houses along Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa were destroyed.
“The fire started at a two-story house made of light materials,” Delos Santos said over dzMM radio.
He added that putting out that blaze became a challenge as residents, who were saving some of their personal belongings, crowded the entry points.
The Quezon City government has provided relief supplies to the affected residents.
