PNP charged 1,048 cops in Q1

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police filed administrative cases against 1,048 police officers during the first quarter of the year, a PNP data showed.
The PNP said it charged 806 non-commissioned officers and 242 commissioned officers in 490 complaints before the Internal Affairs Service or IAS.
The figure is higher by 36.1 percent compared with the 770 police personnel slapped with 332 administrative cases during the same period in 2025.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said this is a reflection of the organization’s intensified drive to weed out misfits from the police force.
“We are firm when it comes to accountability, but we are also fair. Our goal is not just to correct lapses, but to build a culture where doing what is right becomes the standard,” Nartatez said in a statement.
The IAS has recommended administrative sanctions for 323 PNP personnel, including 41 dismissals, 64 suspensions, 20 demotions and 11 reprimands.
At least 187 were exonerated of the allegations against them.
Nartatez reminded police officers of their responsibility to uphold integrity in their profession, warning any form of misconduct will have corresponding sanctions.
