MANILA, Philippines — New steel railings were placed on the Beata Bridge in Pandacan, Manila by the Department of Public Works and Highways yesterday.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno inspected the bridge following reports of stolen railings and accidents in the area.

Aside from reinforcing the railings, Dizon has ordered the installation of reflectorized paint and markings to improve visibility, especially at night.

Moreno welcomed the swift response, noting that the bridge is a key connector for motorists traveling between Manila, San Juan and Quezon City.

He reminded junk shops and buyers that purchasing stolen government property is a crime.

On April 19, a rider died when he fell off the bridge after losing control of his motorcycle.
