MANILA, Philippines — Hotels, inns and similar establishments in Quezon City may now apply for the local government’s voluntary certification program as part of efforts to prevent human trafficking and exploitation.

City hall yesterday said applications are open for the Stops All Forms of Exploitation (SAFE) Seal, which would indicate that an establishment meets the city’s standards for safety and protection.

“We count on our accommodation establishments as a vital line of defense against human trafficking,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

To receive a QC SAFE Seal, an establishment must publicly display a child-safe commitment statement and child protection signage, provide staff training to identify and respond to signs of exploitation, ensure stricter check-in rules for minors and unaccompanied guests as well as designate a child protection focal person.

Accommodation establishments are also encouraged to have child-safe architectural and interior features, staff background checks and regular refresher training on child protection.

Participating establishments may receive incentives, including faster business permit processing, inclusion in tourism promotions and eligibility for recognition and tax perks, depending on the level of compliance.

Applications may be filed online through QC e-Services. The seal will be awarded following inspection and validation.
