2 Manila cops axed for traffic violation

MANILA, Philippines — A patrolman and his immediate supervisor, a police major, have been sacked from their posts for a traffic violation in Manila.
Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuano, spokesman for the Philippine National Police, did not identify the PNP officers.
The two were relieved from their posts as member and commander of the Asuncion police community precinct in Tondo.
“They are undergoing pre-charge investigation,” Tuano said at a news briefing at Camp Crame.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show-cause order to the police officers after they transported wooden pushcarts at the back of a patrol vehicle, risking public safety.
The LTO imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the patrolman’s license, who was the one driving the police car.
Tuano said the police officers loaded the pushcarts in the police vehicle for being road obstructions.
They initially brought the items to the Tondo police station 2, but decided to turn over the pushcarts to a storage facility at the Manila city hall.
Tuano said the police officers could be held liable for reckless driving.
