Taguig-Makati crash no road rage – SPD

MANILA, Philippines — The Southern Police District (SPD) has maintained that the April 24 multiple-vehicle collision in Taguig and Makati is not a road rage incident.

Two motorcycle riders had chased a pickup truck that collided with a sedan in Taguig and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Makati.

One of the riders who punctured the truck’s tires is the brother-in-law of the sedan driver, the SPD confirmed.

Police are still identifying the rider who broke the windows and brandished a gun.

If the motorcycle rider is not a policeman, he could be sued for illegal possession of firearms while the other motorist may face malicious mischief charges, Taguig police chief Col. Julius Añonuevo said.

No complaints have been filed against the pickup truck driver, a senior citizen who committed to pay all expenses.

Police said he did not drive under the influence of alcohol.

SPD public information officer Lt. Margaret Panaga said the truck driver, “afraid” of being mobbed, fled the scene in Taguig, only to collide again with an Isuzu SUV in Barangay Magallanes in Makati.

Panaga reminded the public to be “calm” when witnessing traffic accidents to prevent complicating matters.
