Comelec belies manual counting for 2028 polls
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections yesterday refuted posts circulating on social media that Comelec Chairman George Garcia is pushing for manual vote counting in the 2028 general elections.
In a statement, the Comelec said Facebook posts by “Makhina Moto Vlog” and “Meljam DL” that Garcia proposed a shift to manual counting to prevent election fraud are false.
“The poll body clarifies that the information on Facebook is not true. It did not come from Chairman Garcia,” the Comelec said.
The Comelec reiterated that it continues to adhere to election laws and will implement these in upcoming elections.
The poll body also urged the public to exercise caution and verify information before sharing content online.
Spreading false information constitutes an election offense under the Omnibus Election Code, the Comelec said.
