MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) has denied a petition challenging Manila’s garbage collection fee increase.

Allegedly exceeding the cost of waste regulation in the city by 12 times, the garbage collection fees were questioned by Las Piñas teacher John Barry Tayam.

In a Feb. 25 resolution, the SC said the petition “fails to satisfy all the requisites of judicial review” and “is also violative of the doctrine of hierarchy of courts.”

Tayam is not a resident of Manila and has no business in the city, the high tribunal pointed out.

Mayor Isko Moreno welcomed the SC decision.
